Dissapearing Text in 3.0

Postby tharris9d » Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:34 am

Since updating to 3.0 we lose text in VS 2008 if another window is opened. For instance if IE is opened or Outlook and then minimized the text dissapears on all the controls. It happens on two of our development computers. It doesn't happen in the compiled version just the VS dev environment.

Help would be appreciated.

Windows XP Pro SP3, Dual Monitor Radeon Cards. 3gb ram Pentium Dual Core 3.0

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks for the bug report and followup email. I will investigate the issue as it looks like it has something to do with reallocating fonts when coming back from a locked state.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with v3.0. After any screen lock (manual, scr saver, stanby etc) all the text on the form disappears! You have to minimize/restore for them to reappear. (Using Windows XP SP3, Intel Mobile 965 Chipset)

This surely needs a fix.

Thanks Phil!

I have just noticed that this bug is not restrited to VS environment. It happens on Release built executebles, and also on VMware Virtual Machines. This is important since we do demos on VMs. What happens can be seen in the two screen shots I have attached to this post.

Still disappearing form text in 3.0.6

Postby Rumi » Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:41 pm

Thanks for the 3.0.6 update. Mostly fixed but there still is a single text disappearing; Text of the KryptonForm. Caption of my form becomes invisible after a lock.

Please download and try this update that has a fix that I believe will solve the problem.

However, I thought I had fixed it with 3.0.6 and so I am cautious about completely solving
this until several people have tested and reported it resolves the problem they have...

Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Phil,

Uninstalled 3.0.6, Installed 3.0.7 and tried it with the Krypton explorer executable before my own code. Sorry but the Form text still disappears. I have tried to attach the screen shot into this messege with no luck (It seems attach functionality doen't work).

I can send you screens if you give me an email address.

Hi Phil,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the text problem still seems to be present in v3.0.8. I left Krypton Explorer running overnight and when I arrived in the office this morning the caption text was missing, the machine was not locked but the monitors had dropped into power saving mode. I locked and unlocked the machine and the caption text reappeared. I did not have any of my own code running.

I think I have previously mailed my system spec. but just in case it is XP Pro SP3, VS2005, dual head, Core2 CPU, Krypton v3.0.8.

If I can provide any further information then please let me know.

Cheers,

Swifty.

This sometimes happened on my VM running Windows XP. Also I lost text/graphics using Refactor! Pro. If you are using a VM, try turning DX9 off in the VM settings and believe it or not, lowering the video card acceleration in the display properties. I can't use full acceleration in my Vmware virtual machines for some reason.

I think this also appears on client computers when the license is not compiled into the assembly, though I'd like Phil Wright to comment on that. :)

Licensing only ever shows a warning message and has no other affect on the Krypton code or your application. It your code is not licensed it never breaks your code in any way.

Great... hmm, I wonder what else causes it. The behavior seems to appear more often on machines we are VNCing or remoting into.

I think I have found the problem but to be sure, I need the help of everyone that has posted in this thread.

Now, I realise that some of your applications are commercial, and that you may or may not want the world to see them, but the big problem thus far, is no-one as posted what their application looks like before and after the text dissapears.

I urge you all to please post an image of your application (before and after the text dissapears - even if it is just a section) in tis thread as soon as your can. Use somewhere like image shack

I would be interested if the applications are throwing an exception after the text dissappears that then kill the application.
